ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL AND ENJOYABLE PHUKET RACEWEEK

Phuket has long been one of the most popular tourist destinations among both Thai and foreign travellers. Cape Panwa Hotel of Cape & Kantary Hotels are delighted to have hosted the 19th Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek 2022. This very successful week’s sailing and racing has been instrumental in promoting the tourism industry and revitalising the economy of Phuket Island after the COVID-19 outbreak. Everyone present was able to relax and enjoy the sight of dozens of bobbing yachts docked in front of Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket’s private beach.

Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek has been organised continuously for 19 years as a premier regional international sailing competition, the scenic voyages and the spectacular scenery of Phuket being popular with crews and visitors alike. Rights owner and organiser, Media Business Services, worked together on the event with Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket and Kantary Bay Hotel, Phuket, supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand, Sport Authority of Thailand, Yacht Racing Association Thailand and a range of sponsors. The 4 days of sailing competition off the southeast coast of Phuket were each followed by beach parties at Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket.

The competition was divided into 6 categories; IRC Racing Zero; IRC Racing I; IRC Cruising; Multihull Racing; Firefly 850 Sports One Design; and Pulse 600. It attracted 22 boats including Team Hollywood; Let’s Get It On; APW Endeavour of Whitby; Sakura; Bonza; and Voodoo. Over 200 crew members came to take part from over 25 countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Denmark, The Netherlands, England and New Zealand.

Cape Panwa Hotel, Phuket is an ideal venue for hosting international sailing events, outstanding in the location and luxury of accommodation, with its secluded beach and private pier for easy shore access for crews, and activities in the hotel gardens. Kantary Bay Hotel, Phuket, also offered accommodation. The service is five-star, the parties are second-to-none, pushing the standard and reputation of this regatta to another level.

“We were very excited to be back here again as Phuket is renowned as the yacht cruising centre of Asia. Each year, from 300 to 2,000 sailors and their followers to stay at this destination for a week or longer. The local economy receives a tremendous boost through spending on accommodation, food and entertainment,”

Mr. Poomiphat Navanukroh
Cape and Kantary Hotels’ Travel Industry Group Director.

“This year we were delighted to welcome so many international sailors and old friends to stay at both Cape Panwa Hotel and at our Kantary Bay Hotel, for the sailing during what is known as the Green Season. This is when there are strong waves and currents off most of Phuket’s beaches. Cape Panwa Hotel, however, is located on the east coast, where Phuket Raceweek takes place with steady winds and waves affording satisfying swimming and sailing. We have had a lot of favourable comments from participants about the venue, the food, the parties and our overall service at Cape Panwa Hotel. Hopefully, this success will encourage the continuing re-opening of the country.”
